End Train
DJ | Producer | Curator
End Train is an Italian-London based producer, DJ, podcast host, event curator and motivational speaker of sorts. Along with fellow producer and live artist Flaminia, the pair run two labels - Metempsychosis Records and Ways to Die - and are also part of the Home of Sound platform which they co-run with Alessandro Boni and Rick Vayo of Tapefeed.
Having moved from Rome to London almost ten years ago, Joseph aka End Train has collaborated with numerous artists living in Berlin and London including Tonia Nee, Ireen Amnes, Flaminia & more, with the likes of Oscar Mulero, VSK and Byetone remixing his releases on Metempsychosis Records. Today his track ‘Marching Forward’ drops on Ways To Die and also features a track by SpunOff. It’s available to buy here however the price is set to Bandcamp’s minimum so the buyer can instead donate to the World Health Organisation here.
Recently Joseph has become more recognised for curating the Home of Sound podcast and panel series which features a mix of established and new artists, promoters, bookers, artist managers and label A&Rs to discuss the merits of running events, imprints and making your name as an artist amongst other topics.
The panels provided an accessible way to learn about working in the business with previous guests including Tasha, Daniel Avery, Sync 24 & more. Lately the team has been running online workshops to help other producers in their music journeys.
If you follow Joseph on Instagram, you’ll know he’s very vocal and honest and often uses the platform to share more about his life and feelings. Thoughts about creative blocks and how to overcome any barriers we create in our heads have appeared throughout his feed, and without meaning to, result in a kind of motivational speech. He does not take himself too seriously so it’s no surprise he’s a natural at interviewing guests on the HoS podcasts and panels.
The below shot was taken 12 years ago at a different time in his life long before London and his End Train moniker came about…
Where was this photo taken and why did you choose it?
Two people (one is me) dancing above are happily dancing in the fields at a free party.
This was taken in 2008 from my hardcore raver period. What a time! The music was frenchcore, hard tekno, hardcore industrial; pretty fast and exciting!
What are you listening to at the moment if you’re working from home?
BLVTH - is the guy I am listening to every day at the moment:
I love the sound, the lyrics and the fact that this guy - a good artist - doesn’t takes himself too seriously - like me!
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious, do you have a go-to track or style of music that significantly lifts your spirits?
I want stuff that makes me feel up and also gets my brain hypnotised. Perhaps strangely I have one of two options:
1) I try to go into liquid drum’n’bass (this mix is a go to) or
2) ...wait for it...a lot of Italian, German or English Trap/hip-hop. I'll throw below one tune for each:
How do you intend on celebrating once we’re out the other side?
P...........
.............A..............
..............................R....................
.....................................................T....................................
..........................................................................................Y...................................
.................................................................................................................................!!!!
But a massive one! And I want to hug my family and friends.
Any tips on how to look after your mind and body during this slightly stressful time?
1) Excercise
Every day. No matter how small, if you don't do it, it's much easier to slip into depressive state. If you do, you will be changing your state for the better every day - guaranteed.
2) Accept the situation
There is no point in complaining and thinking ‘what if, this wasn't happening?’. No point in thinking you could have been somewhere else doing something better, had this thing not happened. We are here and we can only accept it. And let's face it, if you are reading this post, you are probably a free person and with an internet connection - it could be much worse!
3) Focus only on what you can control
The whole situation is outside of the control of any specific person. But how you spend your day and what you focus on, is still up to you. This is fantastic as you will soon start seeing the opportunities that inevitably are hidden in any situation. Like more time to meditate. Like an opportunity to change a job you hate. Like an opportunity to start your blog on climate change. Like an opportunity to pick up the phone and catch up and say I love you to those friends you haven't spoken to in months.
