Offtrack
DJ | Producer
Offtrack is an Irish DJ and producer who has been fine-tuning his sound while playing out in Ireland over the last couple of years. His tunes and approach to mixing is a straight-up affair of potent techno, earning him the reputation of a promising artist to keep an eye and ear on.
The Mullingar-based artist has gained a steady momentum on the Irish circuit and is due to release a schlug of screwface-inducing tracks later on this year. As a DJ, he has had the chance to road-test many of them in previous sets across the land at Dali in Cork, Pharmacia in Limerick, Dublin’s 39/40 and Suicide Circus in Berlin to name a few. His most recent release ‘LFO Clinic’ on the Irish imprint Ceili Collective packed a palpitating punch and is the first of more dingers to come out further down the line. Having already shared the stage with Tommy Four Seven, Sunil Sharpe, Rebekah, DeFeKT and Anetha, Thomas has remained grounded and focused throughout the fun parts along the way. At the end of the day, he just wants to make bangers.
The pandemic has not affected Thomas’ motivation to create. As well as working full-time, he has been leathering out tracks and mixes at home and remains fully consumed with the art of producing and DJing. Music is a massive part of his life, something which he explains in more detail below alongside a memory from the depths of Donegal...
Where was this photo taken and why did you choose it?
This photo was taken at a Sofia (shoutout to the guys) gig in Donegal. I chose it as it was definitely one of the more interesting gigs I played. 30 ft. into an underground bunker in a mountain with a bangin’ soundsystem and a variety of sets played throughout the night. Gritty industrial to older, funky techno.
How have you found the last few months?
The last few months have been surprisingly ok. I've had lots of time to focus on what's important while still being able to work at the same time.
Did you discover any new music/artists or find any old tracks or records which you might have forgotten about during the more intense period of lockdown?
I haven't really discovered much new music during the lockdown period as I’ve been pretty much working on my own for some projects which will become known to all soon.
Has the pandemic affected your motivation to produce or even have a casual mix?
Motivation to mix is never really affected, being honest. It gives me time to mix more than I have in the past. I also recorded my first live stream with RLSD which wouldn’t have been done if there was no lockdown so I’m happy with that.
As a producer and DJ, do you plan on someday doing this full-time or have you been put off that idea since Covid-19 massively hit the music industry?
Music is something that already has pretty much full-time hours in my life. If I’m not doing it, I'm definitely thinking about it and different ideas for it. Nothing will change that.
If Covid disappeared entirely forever overnight, what would be your ideal way to celebrate?
Fully local line-up with a big soundsystem and lots of sound people.
