Blixa

DJ | Graphic Designer

Blixa is a DJ and graphic designer who is heavily involved in London’s electronic scene with his Un Paseo radio show, POLAR event series and design work for multiple club nights spanning DnB, dubstep, house, techno and reggae. If you’re looking for flyers to suit any occasion, be it a drum’n’bass party or a hardcore techno night, Blixa is your man. You can check out his online portfolio here.

Like his approach to design, Blixa doesn’t stick to one aesthetic when it comes to DJing. His radio show highlights upcoming Latin-American artists and covers the spectrums of electro, breakbeat, left-field house and more, while his sets out in clubs can go from euphoric trance to brash techno. Music is a huge part of Blixa’s day-to-day life and with everything on hold for now, Blixa revisits a moment from a festival in Italy below…

Where was this photo taken and why did you pick it? What was the music vibe at the time?

This photo was taken at the peak moment during RP Boo's set at Terraforma. The long-awaited torrential rain had cleared on a very wild and already sweaty crowd, soundtracked by a footwork remix of 'Lipps Inc - Funkytown' exactly what everyone needed even if they didn't know they did. I choose this picture because it was probably one of the most surreal moments I've experienced raving, a packed frantic crowd dancing in the rain and 35-degree heat throwing up woodchip and mud, as we were all locked into RP's 2-hour 160 bpm power set... definitely miss in times like these!

What are you listening to at the moment if you’re working from home?

I've been pumping out a lot of dub of late and the oddball dub-step song here and there with 'Plastician - Alone Time' being the most replayed tune.

Not that there was any intention of finding a tune that has a fitting title for these isolation days, innocent coincidence I guess haha. Also, I have my regular Latin-American dig for my radio show, so always listening to the large pool of talent coming out of the region. A little shoutout to my recent guests on the show and now friends Kamila Govorčin, Mekas, Franco. D' and Mari Herzer.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious, do you have a go-to track or style of music that significantly lifts your spirits

Not that there is a specific track or genre but if I'm feeling a bit stressed I usually have a little mix in my room with anything that pops on the USB first then flow with it till I'm bored.

How do you intend on celebrating once we’re out the other side?

To vaguely remember it...

Any tips on how to look after your mind and body during this slightly stressful time?

I'd say take up a hobby or an activity you've never done before or left aside for a while. I know I've dived straight back into the joys of cooking and producing - not commuting has definitely given us all some much needed time back.

Also, call up your friends and family because you know them group Facetime quizzes are a thing...
